If a forklift battery consumes a significant amount of water—or even appears to boil—during the charging process, what causes this to happen?
    Reply from chonglv:
First, the issue may stem from overcharging caused by an excessively high current output from the charger; in this scenario, the only solution is to replace the unit with a charger that delivers a lower current. Charger Recommendation: Calculate the required current by multiplying the battery's capacity by a factor of 0.14 (for example, for a 48V 400AH battery, 400 × 0.14 = 56A; therefore, selecting a 48V charger with an output of approximately 56A would be appropriate). A second possibility is that the charger's intelligent sensing mechanism has failed due to age, preventing it from automatically cutting off the power supply in a timely manner. If the issue involves the "boiling" of only a single individual cell, it is highly probable that the internal separator situated between the positive and negative plates has aged and deteriorated; the resulting short circuit between the plates causes the battery to overheat, and in this specific instance, the only remedy is to replace the defective individual cell.

Dear Suppliers, hello. My name is William, and I am based in Australia. I work in electric forklift maintenance and frequently deal with forklift batteries in my daily work. I have a few questions for you: for instance, how can we best extend the service life of lead-acid batteries? Additionally, what superior maintenance solutions can you offer? Thank you.

Mr. William, We are pleased to receive your letter. We are happy to share our maintenance recommendations for lead-acid batteries. First, during use, it is essential to regularly check the electrolyte level. It is generally recommended to check the electrolyte level monthly, and every two weeks in hot weather, depending on the weather conditions. Additionally, after charging, allow the battery to stand for half an hour and use a hydrometer to measure the electrolyte density of each cell, typically once a month. If the electrolyte density is below 1.28, the battery is considered not fully charged. In this case, you need to check the charger or battery terminal connections for tightness. If the low battery charge is due to loose connections, you need to retighten the connections and then activate the charger's equalization charging mode (equalization charging mode should be activated monthly). When adding distilled water, it is generally recommended to leave 20 mm of space to prevent electrolyte overflow caused by battery movement during forklift operations, which could corrode the terminals. For high-load applications, we recommend allowing the battery to stand for half an hour after fully discharging and fully charging. This will significantly reduce the damage to the lead plates caused by frequent high-current charging and discharging, a problem that is easily overlooked. Charging curves vary depending on the charger brand. It's generally recommended to use a charger with low water consumption, aiming to achieve an electrolyte concentration of 1.28. A high-quality charger should have low water consumption, eliminating the need for frequent distilled water additions, and maintain a similar specific gravity of the electrolyte in each battery cell. This is a brief response for now. Please feel free to reply if you have any further questions.
