Choosing a forklift replacement battery requires more than matching a voltage label. The battery must fit the truck, meet its electrical requirements, suit the work cycle and charge correctly. Use this checklist before requesting a quote.
1. Confirm the truck and battery identification
Record the forklift make, exact model and serial number. Photograph the battery nameplate and note its part number, chemistry, nominal voltage and capacity in amp-hours (Ah). Use the truck and battery labels as the reference; a brand name alone does not identify the correct replacement.
2. Match voltage and usable capacity
Match the replacement battery voltage to the truck manufacturer’s specification. Capacity should be assessed against the approved battery specification and the truck’s daily operating pattern, including shifts, loads, travel distance and opportunity to recharge. Do not choose a higher or lower voltage, or assume that a larger Ah rating will fit or work, without confirming compatibility.
3. Check the battery compartment and connections
Measure the battery tray’s available length, width and height, and compare them with the complete battery dimensions. Check connector type and orientation, cable position, lifting points, and any truck limits for battery weight. Small differences can prevent installation or affect safe operation. Use an OEM fitment chart as a starting point and confirm the exact model and measurements before ordering.
See our Jungheinrich forklift battery fitment table, Baoli battery fitment information and Heli forklift battery options. These tables help narrow a search; verify the truck nameplate and physical fit before purchase.
4. Select the battery chemistry for the work
Lead-acid and LiFePO4 lithium batteries have different charging requirements and maintenance routines. Compare the operating schedule, available charging time, charging location, battery weight requirements and the truck’s approved battery options. A chemistry change is not automatically a drop-in replacement: confirm that the forklift, battery management system (BMS), charger, connector and any required communications are compatible.
Review our lead-acid forklift traction batteries and LiFePO4 lithium forklift batteries to compare the available product specifications.
5. Match the charger to the battery
Confirm charger output voltage and current, battery chemistry, charging profile, connector and any BMS communication requirements. A charger that shares the same voltage is not necessarily suitable for the battery. Ask the supplier to confirm the complete battery-and-charger pairing before connecting or ordering.
See the lithium forklift battery charger and lead-acid forklift battery charger pages for listed specifications.
Information to include in a replacement inquiry
- Forklift make, model and serial number
- Battery nameplate photo, voltage, capacity and part number
- Battery tray length, width and height, plus battery weight requirement
- Connector photo and cable orientation
- Current charger model and output details
- Typical shifts, operating hours and charging routine
Providing these details helps a supplier check fitment and recommend a compatible battery and charger. DAPAI supplies lithium and lead-acid forklift traction batteries and can review OEM/ODM requirements against the information provided.
Frequently asked questions
Can I replace a lead-acid forklift battery with lithium?
Only after confirming truck approval, voltage, dimensions, weight, connector, charger and BMS compatibility. Have the complete installation checked by the truck or battery supplier.
How do I find the right battery dimensions for my forklift model?
Start with the battery nameplate, the forklift model and a verified fitment table, then measure the compartment and compare connector and weight requirements. Confirm the match with the supplier before ordering.
Can I use the same charger for every forklift battery?
No. Charger compatibility depends on the battery’s chemistry and electrical requirements as well as voltage, current, charging profile, connector and communication features.
